Theory, theory, theory

Horse riding lessons at Kenzie Park are not just your standard riding lessons. The practice of riding is important but understanding the how’s and why’s, well you don’t get that everywhere!

Each horse riding lesson begins with a gear-check (horse-check and rider-check) and then we progress through a 45 min period of riding where we focus on the issues the rider wants to work on or those which are picked up by the instructor.

All riders who train at Kenzie Park will get a taste for theory over time. We introduce all riders from an early age to the how’s and why’s of riding during the horse riding lessons.

Position, position, position

Our instructors are sticklers for what is correct and we use a range of teaching techniques – including lunging and riding without stirrups – to create good habits and balanced and confident riders.

While most of our riders prefer flat work we still utilise poles and cavaletti to help develop a strong independent seat and a supple athletic horse during our horse riding lessons.

Our Instructor

Stephanie Gillespie

Kenzie Parks’ Head Instructor is Stephanie Gillespie who began riding at around 9 years of age.  Pony Club provided a great introduction to horse management and competition and Stephanie quickly progressed up  to the highest levels and then out into open EA competition.

Stephanie currently competes a number of horses from young horse through to FEI level dressage, Royal Shows and Pre-Novice eventing .  She is also one of the few riders in Australia who holds an RA1 German FN Riders licence (Reitabzeichen) which enables her to compete up to Grand Prix level in Germany.

Stephanie began competing at EA at the age of 14 in dressage and 17 in eventing with considerable success at State Level PCAV dressage, eventing and showing.  Stephanie compete at Victorian State Dressage Championships each year on horses that she has trained herself.
